ECMOD Supplier of the Year Awards shortlist unveiled

The ECMOD organisers have released the shortlist for the ECMOD Supplier of the Year Awards 2011.

The winners will be announced at a special evening networking party on 30th November during this year’s ECMOD Show, which runs 30th November and 1st December at Business Design Centre, London.

The 39 shortlisted companies, in categories spanning fulfilment, print creative, website development and more, are 2Infinity, Abacus, Amethyst, Arvato, ChannelAdvisor, CHS Creative, Citipost, Citysprint, Creative Mouse, Designtakeaway, DHL, Ec2i, Elements, Essential Commerce, GI Solutions, Hermes, Insert House, JPS, Keystone, Lock Stock & Printed, Logan Tod, Maginus, More2, OneIota, Peerius, Practicology, Prism, Red Eye, ResponseOne, Royal Mail, Salmon, Sanderson, Sunline, TA Design, Transactis, Venda, Webmart, What Users Do, and Yodel.

The awards recognise the outstanding contribution that supplier organisations make to the direct commerce sector. Unlike many others, these awards expressly call for nominations from client companies, and the winners will be those that received the most votes.

GFS offers its carrier management software free to small businesses
In a significant boon to small businesses visiting the ECMOD Direct Commerce Show on 30th November to 1st December, sponsor Global Freight Solutions (GFS) has announced it is making its multicarrier delivery management software available without charge to companies shipping fewer than 50 parcels a day. Larger clients, or those with more specific requirements, will have to pay a small transactional fee.
The offer comes after GFS research found that some companies that managed deliveries in-house often incurred higher bills, swapping between carriers to try and save money. Commenting on the offer, GFS managing director Neil Cotty says helping companies manage their shipments more easily is “of paramount importance given the example of last Christmas, when businesses saw and felt the financial consequences of not having adequate contingencies in their parcel deliveries.” To find out more, see GFS at ECMOD’s Business Centre on the exhibition floor.

Abacus unveils new modelling solution at ECMOD
For the 13th year running, Abacus is exhibiting at the ECMOD Direct Commerce Show. This year, it has chosen the event as the launch pad for its new Maestro service. Maestro is a suite of prospecting models that adds a new dimension to how prospect names are sourced. It introduces a new set of variables to the modelling process that identify and segment strong prospects by their frequency of purchase across the home shopping sector, splitting them into five subgroups.
The Maestro suite presents a prospect service for both start-up catalogues looking for broad and varied prospect data, and established mailers looking for additional names. Marketing professionals attending ECMOD 2011 should visit stands 28 – 31, where Abacus will be demonstrating how this new service can improve their direct mailing strategy.

Adestra boosts social in emails
With email marketers increasingly using social media to grow databases and track ROI, email service provider Adestra has launched a new social sharing feature. The new addition to MessageFocus aims to expand a brand’s reach and awareness by adding social links in emails. It enables brands to share links via social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+, as well as giving recipients the ability to share the email’s content among their friends and contacts. It allows marketers to see how many recipients have shared content; which social networks the content has been shared to; the number of times it has been shared within the social networks and how many times the content has been viewed. Maginus to demo hosted ecommerce solution at ECMOD
Software developer Maginus will showcase its hosted ecommerce and ERP cloud solutions at ECMOD this year on 30th November to 1st December. The company will demonstrate the full capabilities of its Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail software, which offers a fully integrated multichannel platform.

National campaign celebrates the power of print at ECMOD
The world of print is alive and kicking with print advertising, catalogues and direct mail as strong as ever, according to a new national campaign. Because Print Works is a joint initiative between Direct Commerce magazine and the ECMOD Direct Commerce Show, which are dedicated to serving offline and online cataloguers and multichannel sellers in the UK. The campaign aims to raise the profile of the power of print and ensure catalogues, inserts, press and magazine advertising, and customer magazines get the full attention and credit they deserve as vital components in the marketing mix, for successful multichannel businesses. 
To celebrate the brand-building power that comes from intelligent use of print, ECMOD has teamed up with print experts Blue Buffalo to run an intensive training workshop showing delegates how they can perform their one print purchasing audit, including advice on identifying quick wins for savings, and retaining creative control while embracing automation.
 
Hot topics at this year’s ECMOD Conference
The ECMOD Direct Commerce Conference is just around the corner and there are a range of great sessions being held at this year’s event on 30th November and 1st December at the Business Design Centre, London.

The two-day conference programme kicks off on Wednesday, 30th November with the grand opening session: “Power Panel - Where’s the Growth?” This unmissable session is hosted by some of the sector’s most noted entrepreneurs including Nick Wheeler, the founder and chairman of Charles Tyrwhitt and Stuart Paver, the managing director of Pavers Shoes. Running from 9.15am-10.30am, the session will question how the pressure of the current trading conditions is affecting us and how best to survive and adapt to this ever changing, harsh environment.

The panel, also including Nigel Swabey, CEO of Scotts & Co and Aamir Ahmad, managing director of home furnishing brand Dwell, will speak of their experiences of new markets, the deployment of new channels and how to thrive in an ever-changing industry.
