Online Christmas shopping represents 'over a quarter of debit spend'
New research from Barclays shows that Christmas gift delivery figures will be booming this year as over a quarter of the UK's debit spend over the festive period will be accounted for by online shopping.
The data shows a record £46.9 billion will be spent during December despite fears of an economic downturn, with shoppers willing to splash out to ensure they have an enjoyable holiday.
London will be the biggest-spending city with an overall outgoing of £5 billion, while Greater Manchester comes in second with an expected spend of around £2 billion.
Dan Wass, director of current accounts at Barclays, said that whatever a consumer's shopping technique, "using a debit card is the easiest way to get your Christmas shopping done quickly and securely"
