London 2012 Olympic merchandising shop goes for gold with online sales boost
Consumers shopping for presents online have sent the London 2012 Olympic merchandising shop towards a record month of sales.
The rush for Olympic-themed gifts before the 2012 competition kicks off in London has seen a 400 per cent rise in online sales since July, with some product lines selling out completely due to the unprecedented boost in numbers.
Christmas goods have also been popular over the festive period, with baubles depicting Big Ben and a London 2012 Routemaster bus selling especially well.
Debbie Bond from eCommera, manager of the official London 2012 online shop, said: "In the past weeks, there has been a real fly-off-the-shelf phenomenon. We are seeing increasing sales for the whole London 2012 merchandise range."
Simon Lilley, head of retail and licensing for the organising committee, added that a rush from collectors had been expected
