M-commerce boosted online Christmas shopping
People using online auction site eBay are increasingly accessing the site through their smartphones.
It handled ten per cent of its transactions through phones this month and sold one item a minute over mobile during its peak shopping period.
The eBay mobile app, which facilitates the use of smartphones to order goods from the site, has been downloaded 50 million times.
A spokeswoman for the internet shopping giant said: "We're seeing our mobile business grow in triple digits at the moment so mobile sales as a proportion of overall UK sales are likely to have increased significantly."
The company has predicted that purchases made from mobiles will rise by 150 per cent globally at the end of the year
