Shop Direct Group enjoys online sales surge
Online sales up 20 per cent with 74 per cent of all purchases made online for the six weeks to December 1st.
The group, which encompasses high street names like Littlewoods and Woolworths, saw online sales up 20 per cent with 74 per cent of all purchases made over the internet.
It also benefitted from the recent increase in m-commerce as sales from mobile phones accounted for 11 per cent of all transactions, a 40 per cent jump from the previous year's results.
Group chief executive officer Mark Newton-Jones said he was pleased with the results but urged caution coming into what could be a subdued 2012.
"This Christmas was all about online sales. Customers chose to shop at a time and place to suit them and increasingly used tablets and smartphones," he added.
