Silver surfers drive online shopping
Basekit.com survey finds 86 per cent of over-55s shop regularly online, while 36 per cent do the majority of their shopping over the internet
A major reason for this shift towards ecommerce is the convenience and ease of use it offers, with 60.5 per cent of respondents citing this as their primary reason for buying items online.
For older people home delivery is also an important aspect of the service, as 59.2 per cent claimed they enjoyed not having to carry goods home themselves.
"With silver surfers now the UK's biggest online shoppers, retail outlets must consider their websites as - if not more - important as their physical stores to cater to this group," said Chris Winstanley, vice president of marketing for BaseKit.
