Majestic Wine selects e-commerce hosting
Specialist retailer looks to cloud infrastructure provider to boost functionality and scalability of a new e-commerce platform designed to boost its online presenceMajestic Wine has chosen infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud computing provider Carrenza to help improve its online presence by hosting its new Intershop e-commerce platform.
Although the UK wine retailer has maintained an e-commerce platform since 2000, the technology behind the site was beginning to struggle under the pressure as more and more of its customers turned to the internet to purchase fine wines from the comfort of their homes.
Keeping pace with tech evolution
Carrenza will be providing the infrastructure that hosts the Intershop platform, as well as the supporting management services. In addition to the high availability guaranteed by Carrenza, Majestic will benefit from added flexibility to cope with the evolving e-commerce market for years to come.
Richard Weaver, e-commerce Director at Majestic Wine, explained: “Our main concern in selecting a hosting partner was one of scalability. We were looking for an infrastructure solution that would allow us to scale both in the short term for our peak sales period at Christmas, and in the long term as our customers increasingly experience Majestic through our online channels.”
The new e-commerce platform development and infrastructure services will also give the company the ability to integrate technologies such as mobile and social with its web presence.
Weaver said: "We opted for Carrenza because of their proven track record in delivering some of Europe’s busiest e-commerce environments, often having to cope with seasonal peaks and varying demand. This gives us the peace of mind that comes from having a reliable ecommerce infrastructure that we can scale as and when we need it.”
Commenting on the move from the perspective of taking a new supplier relationship, he added: “Another benefit is they are the preferred IaaS provider of both Intershop and Javelin Group, our development partner and integrator. Carrenza has worked with these firms before and so their knowledge of this environment meant we were able to greatly reduce our time to market through automation.”
