1 in 10 eBay customers buying on mobile devices
The sales of goods through smartphones now account for more than a 10th of all purchases on eBay, according to new figures.
More than two million items were bought on eBay through a mobile last month, including a house and a £70,000 Ferrari car.
Angus McCarey, retail director for eBay UK, said: "With consumers having instant access on the move, mobile shopping has come of age. While it took years for internet shopping to become mainstream, we believe mobile commerce will do it in less than half the time. We have never before seen such significant year over year growth."
Meanwhile, eBay has launched a new marketing campaign in the US, with six 30-second TV commercials appearing on some of the most popular cable shows to promote shopping from a mobile phone.
The spots will appear on “Top Gear,” “SportsCenter,” “Tosh.0,” “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” “Top Chef” and “The Rachel Zoe Project.”
The campaign’s tagline is “When it’s on your mind, it’s on eBay.”
The ad campaign, which will also feature QR Codes and online ads, including YouTube and Yahoo homepage takeovers, was created by independent San Francisco ad agency Venables Bell & Partners.
Philip Rinn , Director of Advertising Partnerships at eBay is speaking at ecommerce Expo 2011 which takes place next month at Olympia, London 11th and 12th October and features over 150 exhibitors displaying solutions and services that can help with your cross platform strategy. eBay experts will be on hand to guide you through the process of trading online.
